3. My clay jewelry plate ( top of the page) is described to me as a vibrant, exciting, and my favorite piece of clay artwork that I made. As I started planning for this piece I knew I wanted to use clay but had no idea what direction I wanted to start, I chose to make a jewelry plate because I felt that I would get a lot more use out of it, When I started creating the plate I knew that I really wanted to incorporate some type of zentangle. I did that by adding a variety of different lines on the sun's rays. This technique that I used really made the piece abstract in a way but was also repetition. When I look at the plate, the focal point is definitely the sun because of the huge, warm sun in the middle taking up the most space on the plate. I really wanted people to look at the plate and get a bright, happy, vibe from it and that was the whole purpose in making the plate the way it is. Personally, I wouldn't have done anything differently with the piece except work on my glazing technique. Some problems that I encountered while working was getting carving out the sun and each ray. I overcame these challenges by taking my time and using the proper tools to get the right lines and angles. I am very happy with how this jewelry plate turned out.
3 QUESTIONS
Is copying always plagiarism or is there a gray area? Explain your thoughts.
- I do not believe that certain copying is plagiarism, Say for instance you need some inspiration for an art project. You go online and find another artists work and you really like it . If you were to completely copy the artists idea and work that is plagiarism. But if you were to use some of the same elements as the artist and also using your own ideas to make it a different piece, then that is NOT plagiarism.
What are some reasons why artists make art? - Artists make art for many reasons. Some artists do it out of pure enjoyment. Artists also make art because it expresses who they are as a person or expresses the things that make them happy. Another reason why an artist might make art is to tell some type of story. It could be a story that an observer may know just by looking at the artwork or it could be a story that is more personal.
What is the point of this class? What did you get out of it? - The point of this class is to give students the opportunity to broaden their imagination and creativity. This class also teaches students different techniques and what the true meaning of art is, It doesn't matter if you are really good at drawing or really bad at drawing because this class wasn't about that. It was about not being afraid to express ourselves. I got a lot out of this class. I learned how to things with clay, paint, etc. that I thought I would never be able to do. I also learned that there is a trick/ technique to every thing you do. For example drawing an eye. Before I took this class I would just draw a football shape and put a circle in the middle, but I learned that there are easy steps to drawing a life-like eye.
